About Amy

Amy Stringer - Contemporary designer maker, founder of Leeds Open Studios, general craft enthusiast

Since starting her degree at Sheffield Hallam in 2012, Amy's love for jewellery and contemporary craft has exploded into a passion thats lasted over a decade.

After completing her Jewellery & Metalwork degree in 2015, Amy took part in numerous graduate schemes, including Lustre's Young Meteors and Art& Rising Stars. Amy also started to exhibit in gallery spaces such as Sunny Bank Mills, Cupola Arts and National Centre for Craft and Design. She dove head first into making her jewellery career work. 

Amy exhibited locally and internationally, at shows such as SIERAAD (Amsterdam), Great Northern Contemporary Craft fair, Celebrating Ceramics, Hepworth Wakefield, Saltaire Makers Fair and many more. 

For around 5 years, Amy gained experience working from the gallery side of the industry at Leeds Craft Centre and Design Gallery (now Craft Leeds) as the jewellery coordinator. Curating and working with hundreds of makers over the years, she began to really solidify her place in the industry. 

In 2019, it felt time to expand her practise and bring other mediums back into her work. Amy undertook a Masters degree (MA) in Creative Practise, broadening her skill set into ceramics. After falling in love with the Kurinuki carving method, ceramics has remained a large part of her work. 

After an exciting decade in the industry, Amy continues to push her work and her passion for the arts community. In 2023, Amy decided to start up Leeds Open Studios - an event designed to bring together all the pockets of community in Leeds and create a weekend dedicated to championing the artists working in the city and opening doors to spaces usually closed to the public. 

Amy now spends her time creating bespoke jewellery and ceramic collections for sale, highlighting traditional techniques such as Loop in Loop chain and Kurinuki carving. Designing bespoke wedding ring, engagement ring and heirloom commissions for her wonderful customers and doing what she can to champion the arts community of Leeds. 

Being part of the story of peoples lives through their jewellery is such an incredible privilege, and one that is truly valued - being able to create bespoke works for both the body and home will never be taken for granted
