2024/2025 - 10 years later
Jewellery has always been at the forefront of my practise, I have continued to create commissions, tutor jewellery and make incredibly special engagement and wedding rings. Jewellery will always be my first love, but the shift into ceramics has been an exciting one. The last two years has seen ceramics become an equal part to jewellery. A shift which allows me to create multifunctional, multidisciplinary works which challenge our ideas of wearable and decorative. As well as the classics; mugs, vases and planters.
Through my career I have had the privilege to produce pieces with incredible stories, heirloom gold melted down into something new, Amber bracelets divided to make 10 rings for 10 grandchildren, bracelets representing births and wedding rings for my dearest friends. Favourite pieces from my collections have gone to good homes, and I have met some incredible people along the way. 10 years of exhibiting at shows across the country and into Europe, years of gallery work and managing the workshop has helped me build a strong creative community that I am so grateful for.
The biggest growth of these last two years within my practice has been my ceramic skills. I have continually worked on the Kurinuki method, introducing it to my audience and developing works that challenge the scale Kurinuki can be taken to. The large, heavily carved vessel here was produced from wedging 24kg of clay together to form the initial shape, before hollowing and carving the walls.
A highlight from 2024 was exhibiting my Brutalist jewellery at FORGE in Hatton Garden, London. I took part in ‘Metropolis’ - a perfect theme for my architectural jewellery. I have continued to showcase my work at shows, including Saltaire Makers Fair, Hepworth ceramic and festive markets, Celebrating Ceramics in Oxford and Craft Festival Bovey Tracey. I continue my gallery presence with spaces such as VK Gallery Cambridgeshire, The Yorkshire Gallery Halifax and Hawksby’s Haworth.
Summer 2025 after 4 back to back shows offered an opportunity for reflection on how I have been running things for the past 10 years. I have worked practically every weekend, and pushed myself to extremes to create collections whilst working multiple income avenues to support myself. In order to refocus and get back on track for my goals of working with high end galleries and events, I have taken the leap to hire a second tutor to teach my popular silver ring classes - probably the most business savvy decision I’ve made in 10 years.
This Retrospective has been an incredible opportunity for reflection. Looking back over a decade of work, seeing the links and techniques that I have followed through - the challenges and pressures I have faced and overcome. These write ups have covered just a snippet of highlights for what I have really achieved, but I hope you have enjoyed seeing the journey
Thank you so much for coming x
